DEVELOPING A HEALTHY CHRISTIAN LIFE

TEXT: 1Pet 2:2

As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby

MESSAGE

Virtually all you do with your baby is to relate with him and breastfeed him. You know that when he ingests good food that is appropriate for his age, he grows and he is physically healthy. But if he is malnourished, his growth might be distorted and he may not be able to do things that are expected of his age. The Holy Spirit reveals that the balance diet on which you can feed for proper growth in the Lord is the Word of God. The Apostle Peter counsels: “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby”.

A child may not be able to do all that a normal human being should do. But when he is grown enough, he should. A baby may crawl, but soon when he is of age, he’d walk. Every parent knows this and much as he desires to see his child walk and run around, he concentrates more on feeding him  than commanding him to walk. He knows that if the child is well nourished, he’d be able to walk in due time. God knows so too and the major thing he wants to see you doing is meditating on His Word.

Another aspect of growth is development of behaviour or character. A child is expected to grow up not only in form but also  in character. While physical development or development in form is obtained by feeding, character development is obtained by FELLOWSHIP or association. As our children associate with us, they develop character by observation and roleplaying. We can also grow up to behave like God  in true love and Holiness as we fellowship with Him. The good news is that the same Word of God which is our food is also the point of fellowship. As you meditate on the word and pray based on the word, you are fellowshipping with Him. Hear what the Apostle John says:

That which we have seen and heard [identified in verse 1 as THE WORD OF LIFE] declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. (1John 1:3)

So the WORD of God is your One-stop-shop for your growth and development in form and character; in glory and virtue; in image and likeness till you begin to look and operate as God on earth. Give heed to the word more than any earthly food.

PRAYER

My soul cleaveth unto the dust: quicken thou me according to thy word.

Thank You Father for your Word which is able to build me up and give me inheritance among them that are sanctified.

Father you are my Shepherd teach me thy Word for thy name sake

Make me to understand the way of thy precepts: so shall I talk of thy wondrous works and walk in your ways

Strengthen thou me according unto thy word and let me grow in grace

I refuse to walk according to my senses in the way of the flesh which is vanity and full of lies: Righteous Father, grant me the understanding of your Word graciously.

I have chosen the way of truth: thy judgments have I laid before me. I have stuck unto thy testimonies: I cannot be put to shame. Heavenly Father Teach me, O LORD, the way of thy statutes; and I shall keep it unto the end.

Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy Word; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart
