But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. If a man, therefore, purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.

2Tim 2:20-21

There are many who take pride in their calling and in the mode of their calling. It is not unusual to hear some people tell you how they were called from their mother’s womb.  Others would describe the very unique way by which they received a mandate from God. This is very good but do you remember the story of Eli and Samuel? Eli was called based on a very ancient and established covenant–the covenant of God with Aaron. There could be no greater calling than that. From the day he was born, everyone knew Eli would be the High Priest. Unfortunately, Eli blew it big time! God had to revoke the covenant as it applies to the house of Eli.

As for Samuel, on the other hand, nothing was promised. No vision, no prophecy no mandate. Yet he went on to be the greatest prophet judge and intercessor that in the Old Testament. What could be responsible for this unusual twist? The answer is in 1Samuel 2:30:

“…them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed

Samuel never bargained to be a prophet. His parents were never told he would be one. His mother only resolved to give him in honour to God and to train him to honour God. Samuel also learnt and led a life of honour to God and God him mightily. Eli who was called from birth based on an established covenant lost his calling and his life simply because he dishonoured God.

Consecration is the unmistakable mark of honour. To,  honour God you must live a consecrated life. The scriptures state unequivocally that the prerequisite which must be met before a man can be aligned and made ready for any mandate that the Lord would give is consecration. Easy English Version puts 2Tim 2:21 this way:

It is like that with the Lord’s people. If they make themselves completely separate from bad, dirty things, then they will be like dishes for special, clean purposes. They will be ready for God to use them. He is like the master of the house. They will be ready for him to use them for any good work. (2Tim 2:21).

It is one thing to be a child of God with all the rights and privileges of a child. But for you to be God’s emissary making great impacts for Him, you must consecrate yourself. Make a conscious decision to live a consecrated life and God will flow through you mightily for unusual exploits

Dear heavenly Father. Thank you for calling me into you Great House
