Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God
In our last teaching we discovered that the first thing that grace gave to us is the life of God which came into our spirit by the very fact of our new birth. The day you gave your life to Jesus Christ, you instantly received the exact quality of life that Jesus has. One beautiful thing about that life is that sin is totally powerless before it.
Our theme scripture tells us something that cripples human understanding. Firstly, it tells us that He that is born of God sinneth not. Well, we may manage to rationalize that. But it goes further to say that He that is born of God CANNOT sin. That is to say, he doesn’t have the ability to sin. This is too much for the religious mind. But let me help you understand it.
He that is born again is not your mind or body, it is your spirit. Your regenerated spirit does not, and cannot sin because the seed of God (the eternal Word of God) abides in him. Your spirit man is exactly like Jesus. He is perfect. Ephesians 4:24 (NIV) tells us that he is “…created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness”. That is why God sees you as holy and righteous. It is because He is not seeing from the outward perspective; He is seeing your spirit man. He sees you as holy and unblameable. Hallelujah.
The only reason why you still manifest the work of the flesh is because of the state of your mind. If you mind earthly things; if you walk by your sensory perception, you’re said to be carnally minded. In that state, you would not be able to obey the law of the spirit (Romans 8:7). Rather, you’d manifest the works of the flesh no matter the willpower or fasting. But if you allow your regenerated spirit man to determine the state of your mind, you’d walk in perpetual holiness. “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh” (Gal 5:16).
By default, humans are carnally minded. We learnt to be so from living with what the Good News Bible in 1Pet 1:18 refers to as “the worthless manner of life handed down by your ancestors”. Now that you’re in Christ, you need to reprograme your mind. You need to renew it till you become spiritually minded. We shall explain this process in succeeding teachings. But for now, let us celebrate the fact that we are perfect before God in our Spirit man. Praise God.
LET US PRAY
Father, thank you for creating in me a perfect man that is exactly like Jesus. I am pure and sinless before you. In Christ, I do not sin, neither can I because the life of God is in me.
I declare that sin has no dominion over me. I live a pure life in Jesus Name
Father, train your children to become spiritually minded that we may manifest outwardly before all men, the purity that is already in our spirit that men may see and glorify you
