PRAY FOR OUR LEADERS AND NATION

I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;  For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

TEXT: 2:1-2

During the World War ll Churchill received an intelligent report in September 1940 of an impending air invasion by the Nazi forces who were coming with more than 200 bombers. The Royal Air Force of Britain had only 26 squadron which rose from its land to face the overwhelming Nazi forces. But suddenly, 185 of the Nazi planes were down in flames and the rest had to retreat. A captured Nazi pilot asked in perplexity ”where did you get all the planes you threw in Battle over Britain?…they were hundreds”. Another said ”With the striking of your Big Ben clock each evening at 9, you used a  secret weapon which we could not understand. It was very powerful and we could find no countermeasures against it.” What the Nazi did not understand was that as Big Ben in the clock Tower of the Parliament building struck 9 the people of the British Isles and the English Commonwealth halted for the famous Silent Moment of Prayers. God fought for them as a result and they had peace.

Today the world is facing common enemy–Civid-19. In Nigeria, bad leadership has made the situation even worse. Even then, it is strange how Christians that should know better join the rest of the world in complaining and speaking as the foolish people of the world. In the name of being real, they’ve become foolish, insulting leaders and throwing tantrums all over the social media. But ask yourself, how many of such methods have worked? We have become busy doing nothing.  Friends, wake up up! We operate by a different set of rules.

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God…)” (2Cor 10:4-5)

It is wrong for Christians to insult leaders and speak evil of our land let alone speaking ill of the body of Christ or it’s leaders. If we were actually doing our works by praying for them, things would have been better. Let us arise and pray. Drop the idea of complaining and grumbling. If we must rid our nation of the double pestilence of Covid 19 and terrible leadership, then we must rise up to our duties. After all, we are the light oif the world. We can dispell this darkness.

Some of us think we need to get some governmental position before we can make necessary change. But that is not necessarily God’s method. He says our weapon is not canal. Our weapon is the Word and prayers. You don’t have to be a senator or president to cause the necessary change. God still needs A MAN. Will you be that man? If you will prayer God will move on our behalf. Even if you were the only one you can make a Change. God did not say we have to be many. He says the effectual fervent prayer of A righteous man  availed much (James 5:16). So brethren let us pray.
