TEXT 1Thes 4;16-18

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words

a TALE FROM HELLSomeone dies, at least so he claims, and goes to hell, sees some great men of God are in hell alongside some horrible sinners. Then he sees a very infuriated God, so infuriated because there is none righteous. “Blow the trumpet!”. He orders. Then Jesus falls to his knees begging for a postponement because everyone would go to hell if God ends it all now. He weeps profusely such that his Calvary wounds begins to bleed again. God finally agrees. Jesus quickly dispatches angels in one last frantic effort to warn men and allows some dead men including himself to resurrect to do same. What a terrible caricature of the grand plan of the ages!

All these are aimed at instilling fear on people to scare them away from sin. But fear has never been an answer to sin. Love is! Only the gospel  (Good news) converts sinners to saints (Romans 1:16) and makes saints stand firm. If men wouldn’t believe it, neither will they be saved by a tale from hell (Luke 16:29). A lover of God doesn’t feel good about sinning because he feels he’s betraying such an unreserved love. He’d prefer being roasted alive to denying Jesus. The fear of hell can’t make you do that. The fear of a tyrannical God can’t make you resist the lure of seduction. Only love can.

Many people think of the coming of our Lord Jesus as an anathema. They wish Jesus could delay the rapture because they love the world and are at home in it. Others are not sure of their salvation. All they know is salvation given as a reward for fulfilling the law and they are not sure if they have done much. But if you are taught in the gospel of Grace, you’d think differently and see the fact that it is close as a reason why you should be zealous in evangelism because there’s still so much work to be done and the time is short

The coming of our Lord Jesus for His church should be a source of comfort because “all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution” (2Tim 3:12) and rapture puts an end to it. If you love Jesus, you will wish to see Him the Loved Unseen. You will wish to hold the hands that held your heart in such a warm embrace. Don’t you feel Him when you pray? The tears, the smile and warmth in worship; the laughter in the spirit; the joy of salvation. Thy are but a tip of the iceberg of what we’d experience when he finally manifests before us. That is why “the Spirit and the bride (the church) say Come. And let him that heareth say come. (Rev 22:17). MARANATHA!

Thank you Father for the hope of salvation that I shall receive when the trumpet sounds

Thank you for the hope of resurrection

Father help me to stay alert and to invite others to this life of love and grace

Father let your love take hold of my heart more than ever before.

Father cause your church to know the truth and be prepared for the rapture of the saints
